Introduction to project brief

THE NEW ELIZABETHANS

My name is Georgina Sreeves and I am an 18 year old university student. Having previously done A-levels (English Literature, Media and Geography) I felt that the academic route was not where I wanted my life to go as I have always been creative and used art as an outlet, and never have I felt drowned when surrounded by makeup brushes and palettes like I have in a textbook full of words and meaningless information. 

Despite not studying makeup at college or doing any type of course, I have been experimenting with makeup from a very young age. My mum has an extensive makeup collection, which led me to play with all the utensils and colours and eventually develop an immortal interest in makeup. From 12 I begun buying cheap makeup from Superdrug and practising everyday, eventually using my friends as models for my experiments. From then on they have been my outlets for makeup, enabling me to practice on someone other than myself and resultantly doing them makeup related favours for nights out and events. This has been the extent of my practise, but has been enough for me to learn and decipher what makeup to use on what type of skin and which brushes to use with what type of product etc. Youtube has been a big giver of information and expertise for me, and I owe a lot of my knowledge to this. 

Having studied the Tudors in my early years of school, I had acquired basic knowledge. However, I enjoy researching and learning, and I have a particularly keen interest in the Italian Renaissance, which has correspondence with the Elizabethan era. 

My fears about this project are not conforming to the brief properly, and also having difficulty with the elaborate hairstyles. I do often get confused when it comes to intertwining hair strands and encompassing accessories such as ribbons in to the hair, but I'm sure with practise and a design I will be able to achieve something that I will be proud of. I really hope to be able to create something that pushes my boundaries and is completely different to anything I have done before, however as someone else will be re-creating my design on me and vice versa, I hope that there is coherence between my partner and I. 

I am hopeful in learning more makeup methods and experimenting with the makeup kit as I have not been able to use much specialist makeup before, and also acquiring vast knowledge about hair methods and hair styling.
